How to Doodle a Graduation Cap

How to Doodle a Graduation

Step 1

draw a graduation

To doodle a graduation cap, begin by drawing a diamond in the middle of your page. Notice how the diamond shape is a little offset from the middle. From another perspective, it’s a flat square shape lying on the ground. This shape will become the top part of your graduation cap.

Step 2

drawing graduation

Next, let’s doodle the lower half of our graduation cap. Use two straight lines on the sides, and a curved line for the bottom section of the cap. Notice also how this new shape we have created is positioned in the horizontal center of our diamond shape.

Step 3

doodle graduation

To doodle your tassel, first draw a small circle in the middle of your triangle. Then extend two lines from that circle. Notice how the two lines form a v-shape that extends downwards.

Step 4

doodling a graduation

Use several more short lines by adding them to the end of your tassel. Then use additional straight lines along the lower section of your graduation cap to create a nice shadow effect.

Step 5

how to doodle a graduation

The final step is to give your graduation cap some needed color. Blue was used in this example, but I’ve seen them in purple, red, and black. Feel free to experiment with the colors. 🙂

How to Doodle a Submarine

How to Doodle a Submarine

Step 1

drawing a submarine1

To doodle a submarine, begin by drawing an egg shape in the middle of your page. Notice how the egg shape is more narrow on the right than it is on the left.

Step 2

draw a submarine

Let’s now doodle our submarine propellers. To doodle these propellers, use straight lines and arc shapes. Pay particular attention to the size of each object in relation to other objects. Try to also make the propeller wings the same size in terms of length and width. This isn’t always easy, so you might need to play around with this.

Step 3

doodling a submarine

Let’s now doodle our submarine periscope. To do this, use straight lines and arc shapes. For our doodle, we’re going to exaggerate the size of our periscope to give it a cartoon-like feel. Notice the angle of the periscope and the length of each of the lines.

Step 4

doodle a submarine

It’s time now to doodle some windows for our submarine. For this example, we’ll doodle two types of windows. We’ll first doodle the main front window. Use a rounded v-shape for this purpose. For the back windows, we will use ovals. Notice in the example how a smaller oval is drawn within a larger oval. Try and keep the spacing between the circles consistent.

Step 5

how to doodle a submarine

Our submarine is almost done. All we have to do now is add some more fine details and some color. First, let’s add a shadow effect to various areas of our submarine. To do this, use short straight lines. Notice also where this shadow effect was used and how it makes the submarine look more realistic. Next, use straight and curvy lines on the body and window of our submarine. This will give the impression that it’s a reflective surface. You can also use straight and curved lines around the propeller of our submarine. This will give the impression that the propeller is spinning and that the submarine is moving. And finally, give your submarine some needed color. The colors you use are, of course, up to you. Submarines can come in a variety of colors.

How to Doodle a Checklist

Step 1

drawing achecklist

To doodle your clipboard checklist, begin by drawing the clipboard holder section first. Use curved lines and a circle for this purpose. Also, try and keep the left and right side symmetrical. We are doodling the clipboard holder first because it overlaps other parts of our checklist.

Step 2

how to draw a checklist

The next layer of our checklist that we need to draw is our paper. Draw an upright rectangle to represent your paper. Notice how the top portion of our rectangle is under the clipboard holder.

Step 3

doodling a checklist

To doodle your clipboard, use another upright rectangular shape on the outside of the small rectangular shape you drew within Step 2. Notice also how part of this shape is hidden behind the clipboard holder. You can also add a 3-dimensional aspect to the bottom part of your clipboard using straight lines. Notice how the short outer lines and angled inwards.

Step 4

doodle a checklist

It’s time now to doodle our checklist. Use rectangles, ticks, and squiggly lines for this purpose. Notice the spacing between each item of our checklist. You can, of course, use your creativity here. This clipboard doesn’t necessarily have to be a checklist. It can be a picture, a game strategy board, or anything else that comes to mind. 🙂

Step 5

how to doodle a checklist

Add the final touches to your checklist doodle by giving it some needed color. Notice how different shades of brown are used to show darker and lighter shades. You can use color in this way instead of the line shadow effect used in other doodle examples.

How to Doodle a UFO

Step 1

drawing a UFO

There are a number of ways we could doodle a UFO. Nobody has ever seen a UFO, so nobody knows what they really look like… or have they. 😉 Begin your doodle by drawing an upside-down U shape in the middle of your page. Now close the shape with a curved line. This will become the cockpit of our UFO.

Step 2

how to draw a ufo

Let’s now doodle the body of our UFO. To doodle the body, use a curved line that wraps around the cockpit. Notice where the curved lines touch the cockpit area of our UFO. Having the lines too high or too low will change the shape of our UFO doodle.

Step 3

doodling a ufo

Doodle another curved line to the under the main body of your UFO. Notice how this curved line mirrors the cockpit area in size and shape. Notice also how it is centered with the cockpit area. This will help us to give the UFO and nice symmetrical shape.

Step 4

doodle a UFO

Add some details to your UFO using lines and ovals. First, doodle some windows for the cockpit area using three oval shapes. Now let’s doodle an antenna at the top and at the bottom of our UFO. Use a straight line with an oval for this purpose.

Step 5

how to doodle a ufo

To finish off our doodle, use straight lines to create a shadow effect on the underside, body and cockpit area of our UFO. Add three small straight lines to the top antenna. This will make it seem as though it’s broadcasting a signal or message down to earth or to its mothership. 😉 And finally, give your UFO some needed color. Feel free to use your creativity. UFO’s surely come in many different colors. 😉

how to doodel a pot plant

How to Doodle a Pot Plant

How to Doodle a Pot Plant

Step 1

drawing a pot plant

To doodle a potplant, begin by drawing a wide and slim rectangle in the middle of your page. Under that rectangle, doodle a square with a curved base that connects to that rectangle. This now becomes the pot for the pot plant.

Step 2

how to draw a pot plant

Let’s now take some time to doodle the plant part of our pot plant. 🙂 To do this, draw two curvy lines that meet at the top. See in the example how at the base the two lines are wider apart, while at the top they come together at a point.

Step 3

doodling a pot plant

To doodle the leaves of your plant, use arc shapes that are part of your visual alphabet. In the example, I have doodled 6 leaves. However, you can doodle more or less depending on how much work you would like to put into this doodle. 🙂 Notice also the spacing between each leaf and how they are positioned on the stem of the plant. You can, of course, play around with this. There are no fixed rules here.

Step 4

doodling a pot plant

To doodle the base of your pot plant, use a curved line. Kind of like an oval. But the oval doesn’t close as it’s positioned under the pot. This gives the impression that part of the base is lying behind the pot.

Step 5

how to doodel a pot plant

Add the final touches to your pot plant using straight and curved lines. Use straight lines on the pot to give it a shadow effect. Use curved and straight lines on the leaves to give them some more details. Then finally, give your pot plant some needed color to spice up the room. 😉

How to Doodle a Tank

Step 1

draw tank

Tanks can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. For this example, we will use very rounded shapes. Begin by drawing the body and head of your tank. Use arc shapes and rounded closed shapes for this purpose.

Step 2

drawing tank

Let’s now doodle the wheels of your tank. For this purpose, we are going to be using oval shapes. Notice how the oval shapes are larger in the middle and smaller at the ends.

Step 3

how to draw tank

Let’s now doodle the shooting arm or cannon of the tank. Here, we will use straight and curved lines as shown in the example above.

Step 4

doodling tank

Let’s now give our tank a little more character and details. All these details are not necessary, as I think we have pretty much nailed down what a tank looks like. But the details give our tank a little personality. To doodle these details use curved lines, arc shapes, straight lines, and rectangles.

Step 5

how to doodle a tank

The final step is to add a slight shadow effect to certain areas of our tank using small straight lines. Also, add three straight lines coming out of the cannon. Then finally, give your tank some needed color. Tanks can, of course, come in various colors. Therefore, feel free to use your imagination. 🙂

how to doodle a flag

How to Doodle a Flagpole

How to Doodle a Flag Pole

Step 1

drawing flag

To doodle a flagpole with a flag, use straight lines that start out a little wider then get narrower as we move up the flagpole. Also, notice how at the bottom of the flagpole we have a slight bump or curve. This gives the impression that the flagpole is coming out of the ground or a stand that we will doodle a little later.

Step 2

how to draw flag

To doodle the flag, use curved-wavy lines for the top and bottom part of your flag. Then use a straight line to close the shape. Please see the example. This gives the impression that the flag is blowing in the wind. If you prefer not to have it blowing in the wind, then you can use a rectangle to represent your flag.

Step 3

doodling flag

Let’s now add a few more details to your flagpole. First, doodle the base of your pole using an oval and curved lines as shown within the example. Notice how part of the oval shape is hidden behind the main part of the flagpole. This gives the impression that the flagpole is covering part of the base. This is why we doodle the flagpole before doodling the base. When done, add an oval to the top of your flagpole as shown within the example.

Step 4

how to doodle a flag

It’s time now to use our creativity to doodle an image or pattern on the flag. In the example, I didn’t use too much creativity. I simply doodled six curved lines that make it look like the Finnish flag. Notice how the curved lines kind of match the curved lines on the out edges of the flag. This isn’t necessary, but makes the image look a little more realistic. You can, of course, doodle any pattern or image you like on the flag. Feel free to use your imagination. 🙂

Step 5

how to doodle a flag

Let’s now add the final touches to your flag. First, add some lines to the base to give it a shadow effect. Add some checkered lines to the top of your flagpole to make it seem as though it has a reflective surface. Also, add some curved and wobbly lines around your flag to give it the impression that it’s blowing in the wind. You can also add some arc shapes to the flagpole where the flag is attached to the pole to highlight that there is a string holding the flat to the flagpole. And finally, add some color to give your flag some life.

how to doodle a bike

How to Doodle a Bike

How to Doodle a Bike

Step 1

drawing bike

Bikes are not easy to draw. They look complicated and tricky. But there is a simple way to doodle them. To doodle a bike, begin by drawing two equally sized circles in the middle of your page. Pay particular attention to the space between the circles. This space can be equal to the size of the circles. In other words, it could be equal to the size of a third circle in between your two circles. I hope that makes sense. 🙂

Step 2

how to draw bike

Let’s now start doodling the frame of the bike. But before you do this, add a small circle in the middle of each wheel. Then extend the frame from there using straight lines. Pay particular attention to the angle and length of the lines in the example.

Step 3

doodling bike

Let’s continue to build the frame of the bike. Here we are using three additional straight lines. Notice the length and the angles of the lines and where they are positioned in relation to the wheels of the bike. The lines don’t necessarily need to be exactly as presented in the example. Bike frames do vary. But you can certainly use this as an example to get you started.

Step 4

doodle a bike

To doodle the handles of your bike, use a straight line, a curved line and a couple of small rectangles. To doodle seat of the bike, use a stretched oval shape. Notice also the angle of this oval shape. Again, your doodle doesn’t necessarily need to be as presented in this example. But I would recommend following the example when doodling your bike for the first time. Later you can step outside these boundaries and create something that looks a little different.

Step 5

how to doodle a bike

The final step is to add some final touches to your bike. Let’s first add some more details to the wheels of the bike by using straight lines that extend from the middle dot. Then finish off your bike doodle by giving it some color.

How to Doodle a Plane

Step 1

how to draw a plane

To doodle a plane, begin by drawing the left wing of the plane using arc shapes that are part of your visual alphabet. We are doodling the wing of the plane first because it overlaps the main body of the plane.

Step 2

drawing plane

Let’s now doodle the body of our plane. There are many ways we can do this. But for this example, we will keep our shapes very simple. We use a fish-type of shape where it’s rounded on one side and finishes with a pointed end on the other side. This is very simple but works extremely well for what we’re trying to doodle here.

Step 3

draw plane

Time now to doodle the propeller and the right wing of our plane. To do so, use curved arc shapes as shown in the example above. Doodle the propeller on the nose of the plane, and the right wing extending out the right side of the plane. Notice how we are only showing a part of the wing in our doodle. The majority of the wing is, of course, hidden by the body of the plane.

Step 4

doodle plane

Let’s now add some details to your plane. We will use a couple of v-shaped lines to doodle the back of the plane and the main cockpit window. We will then use oval shapes that are also part of our visual vocabulary to doodle the passenger windows. How many windows you doodle is up to do. But with the space we have to work with, three windows seem like a good fit.

Step 5

how to doodle a plane

Time now to add the final touches to your plane. First, let’s add a shadow effect to the underside of the plane as well as to the left and right wing. Do this by using short straight lines. When done, add three additional straight lines behind the plane. This will give the impression that it is moving through the air. Notice also that the propeller has a shadow effect as well. The main cockpit window also has some checkered lines. This gives the impression that the window has a reflective surface. And finally, give your plane a little more character by adding some color.

How to Doodle a Camera

How to Doodle a Camera

Step 1

draw camera

To doodle a camera, begin by drawing a rectangle in the middle of your page. Notice in the example how we have an imperfect rectangle with some rounded lines. This is okay. The camera you’re drawing doesn’t need to have perfectly straight lines. Imperfections will, in the end, give the doodle some added character.

Step 2

doodling camera

Let’s now doodle the lens of your camera. To do this, use simple oval shapes. Notice in the example how a smaller and larger oval shape is used. Try and keep the distance (gap) between the oval shapes equal. But, again, this doesn’t need to be perfect. Imperfections are welcome. 🙂

Step 3

drawing camera

Our camera doodle is still missing the flash and some buttons. To draw these elements, use simple rectangle shapes that are part of your visual alphabet.

Step 4

how to draw camera

We, of course, can’t take a picture without a button that takes our snapshot. Let’s doodle this button on the top left-hand corner of our camera using straight lines shown within the example.

Step 5

how to doodle camera

Let’s now add the final touches to our camera doodle. Use lines for shading various areas of your doodle. This will create a shadow effect on the camera. Also, use lines on the lens and the flash to make it look as though it’s a reflective surface. Finally, add a “flashy effect” on the top right-hand corner of your camera to highlight that the flash is active. Then, of course, complete your doodle by giving it some color.
