How to Doodle Yoga

Step 1

YOGA, Yoga, yoga… how to doodle YOGA? We want to keep this as simple and straightforward as possible. Okay, I think I’ve got an idea. Begin your Yoga doodle by drawing a three-sided box. Notice, that the vertical lines of this box are slightly curved toward the left. This is important when it comes to Yoga – as you will see in the upcoming steps. 🙂 This three-sided rectangle will represent the body of our Yoga character.

how to doodle yoga 01

Step 2

Next, let’s doodle the head of our Yoga character. For the head, use an oval shape. Don’t worry about drawing the neck of our character. Our doodle character doesn’t need a neck to do Yoga. Trust me. 😉

how to doodle yoga 02

Step 3

Yoga is somewhat about balance and maintaining certain postures and forms. So, to show this in our doodle, let’s focus on getting the legs of our doodle character in a bit of an awkward and uncomfortable position (for anyone who doesn’t do yoga). In the example below, I have doodled the character standing on one leg while propping the other leg on the inside of the knee (what knee you might be asking?) Our character doesn’t have any knees. Okay, I get your point. 😉 Just ignore the knees and bend one of the legs and rest it on the side of the opposite leg. Which leg you bend makes no difference.

how to doodle yoga 03

Step 4

For the arms, let’s place the arms all the way above the head to show a very tall and solid Yoga posture. Then use three arc shapes for the eyes and mouth. You can, of course, play around with the facial expression of our character. I was trying to go for something very serene and calming. Hopefully, they are the feelings you get when you look at the example below. 🙂

how to doodle yoga 04

Step 5

The final step is to give our doodle character some color. The colors you use are completely up to you. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of YOGA in a very simple and straightforward way. Our character in this doodle is neither male or female. But you could, if you wanted to, play around with the hair, or maybe give your character some shorts. Feel free to experiment and little, and also think of other YOGA postures you could doodle in a very simple way.

How to Doodle Yesterday

Step 1

If someone asked you to doodle the idea of YESTERDAY, what would you draw? This is a bit of a tough one. YESTERDAY isn’t a physical object that we could draw. So what to do? Let’s look at representing our doodle in a symbolic way. Hopefully, that will help us get the idea across. Let’s begin by drawing a moon shape (half-moon). Use a combination of two arc shapes for this purpose.

how to doodle yesterday 01

Step 2

Next, let’s draw an arrow pointing away from the moon and to the left. Use a combination of arc shapes and straight lines to draw your arrow. Our doodle looks a little strange at the moment, but let’s see how the rest of the steps come together. 🙂

how to doodle yesterday 02

Step 3

You might be thinking, what our arrow is pointing at? It’s pointing at an oval shape (partial oval shape) that represents our sun. We are, therefore, trying to get the idea across that night turns to day backward. Or to put it another way, it helps us to represent the idea of YESTERDAY in a symbolic way.

how to doodle yesterday 03

Step 4

At the moment our Sun and Moon could do with a little more context. Let’s make these objects look like night and day. Do this by adding stars next to the moon and rays around our sun. I think that looks a little better. But we’ll still need to add some color.

how to doodle yesterday 04

Step 5

The final step is to add some color to our doodle. And there we have it. This is now our visual representation of YESTERDAY. I think it gets the idea across, don’t you? 🙂 But, this might not be the only way to represent YESTERDAY. Could YESTERDAY be doodled in a different way? Go ahead and give it a go. 🙂

How to Doodle Yelling

Step 1

Let’s take a look at how to doodle someone yelling or just looking mean and angry. 🤬 To begin with, draw an oval in the middle of your page. This oval will represent the head of our doodle character.

how to doodle yell 01

Step 2

Next, let’s look at how to doodle the eyes of our character. In this instance, we want to make the eyes look a little mean and nasty as though they’re staring down someone. It’s easiest to draw the right eye first (your right, not the character’s right) 😉 Then draw the partially hidden left eye next. The right eye is represented by a full oval shape, and the left eye with a partial oval shape. Then use a couple of arc shapes for the eyelids and dots for the retina. And now you should have something that looks kind of like the example below. If it looks different, not to worry. Just experiment with the eyes a little more by changing their shape or position.

how to doodle yell 02

Step 3

To draw the ears of our character, use a couple of oval shapes. Then for the mouth, use a couple of upside-down arc shapes then a right-side-up arc shape to represent the tongue. Really not much to this. Again, feel free to experiment with the shapes you use to change the facial expression if you feel it’s not quite right.

how to doodle yell 03

Step 4

To represent the idea of “yelling” or “anger” in general, we need to look at the eyebrows. The eyebrows often are a huge point of expression when it comes to doodling faces. Here, we want to make sure that we angle the eyebrows downward toward the middle of the eyes (where both eyes meet). This will give us the look that we are after. Then use several lines shapes for the hair. Or, feel free to experiment with a different style of haircut. 😉

how to doodle yell 04

Step 5

The final step is to give our doodle character some color. Complementary colors were used in this instance, but feel free to experiment with this. And there we have it. This is our very basic doodle representation of someone yelling or just looking a little less than satisfied with whatever is going on here. 🤬

How to Doodle Yawn

How to Doodle Yawn

Step 1

Let’s take a look at how to create a very simple doodle that shows someone yawning. Let’s see if we can use a very small amount of shapes while piecing this doodle together. Begin your yawning doodle by drawing an arc shape for the head. Then add a couple of small arc shapes for the ears. We are leaving a space on the bottom of the head (where the neck is) as we will be drawing a hand in this space.

how to doodle yawn 01

Step 2

When we yawn, we tend to put a hand over our mouths. Let’s represent this in our doodle. In the space where we left a gap, let’s draw the hand. Draw the hand using a combination of intertwined arc shapes. No need to fuss over the hand. It’s intimidating to draw hands if you’re a first-time doodler. Remember though that when it comes to doodling, hands don’t need to be perfect. They just need to look somewhat like hands. 🙂

.

how to doodle yawn 02

Step 3

Next, draw a couple of large oval shapes for the eyes and then use an arc shape for the mouth. Notice how part of our hand is covering the mouth in the example below. At the moment our yawning doodle looks a bit more shocked rather than tired. So, let’s fix this up in the following two steps.

how to doodle yawn 03

Step 4

When we yawn, it’s often an indication that we’re feeling tired. To show that our character is feeling tired, we need to make the eyes look a little sleepy. To do this, use several arc shapes that show the eyes partially closed. Then use a few more arc shapes for the bags under the eyes, for the creases around the mouth, and for the three strands of hair on top of the head.

how to doodle yawn 04

Step 5

The final step is to give our doodle character some color. And there we have it. This is our very simple doodle showing someone yawning. You might be looking at the doodle and asking “where is the nose?” Not really necessary in this instance. But you can add a nose if you like. 🙂

How to Doodle Xylophone

How to Doodle Xylophone

Step 1

Instruments are not always easy to draw. However, one instrument that isn’t too hard to doodle is the Xylophone. Let’s give it a go. To begin your Xylophone doodle, start by drawing six upright rectangles of different lengths. You will notice in the example below how the rectangle on the far right is the smallest, while the rectangle on the far left is the largest. Notice also the spacing between the rectangles. Your rectangles, of course, don’t need to be perfect. When it comes to doodling, nothing needs to be perfect. As you can see my lines aren’t perfectly straight. In fact, the top and bottom parts of each rectangle have an arc shape, which is perfectly fine. Imperfection gives our doodles character.

how to doodle a

Step 2

Let’s now connect each of our Xylophone blocks together using a combination of straight lines. The key here is to work with the angles. You will notice in the example below how these lines are angled as they move from one rectangular block to the next. Again, you don’t need to be perfect here. You will see in my example how my angles are a bit off at times, and that is perfectly fine. Revel in your imperfect doodles. 😉

.

how to doodle a

Step 3

To play our Xylophone, we will need what are called mallets. They are the things we use to play our Xylophone. They are basically sticks with a soft or hard ball on top. Let’s use a combination of straight lines to draw a couple of elongated rectangles that will represent our mallets. Notice how I have angled these mallets in the example.

how to doodle a

Step 4

Let’s now draw the round balls of our mallets. Begin by drawing an oval shape for the mallet closest to the bottom. Next, draw an arc shape for your second mallet. This now highlights that one of the mallets is partially hidden by the mallet that’s in front of it. Our angles are a bit off in this doodle, but we don’t necessarily need to worry about that when it comes to doodling. I have also added a crosshatch to each oval to give them a bit of a three-dimensional feel.

how to doodle a

Step 5

The final step is to give our Xylophone some color. Feel free to play around with this and use your imagination. And there we have it. This is our Xylophone doodle. Pretty straightforward right? Now, I’d like to challenge you to draw your Xylophone from a different angle. Maybe, you’re looking at it from the side instead of from the top? The more angles you can experiment with, the easier doodles such as this will be to draw. 😄

how to doodle a wish

How to Doodle Wish

How to Doodle Wish

Step 1

If someone asked you to doodle a wish, what would you draw? When I think back to my childhood, a star comes to mind. I think that most children are probably taught to look up into the night sky and make a wish upon a falling star. It goes back to the classic Disney song from Pinocchio “When you wish upon a star…”. I’m sure you know it even if you haven’t seen the movie. With that in mind, let’s use a STAR as the main focus of our WISH doodle. To begin your doodle, let’s draw a star. In the example below, I’ve drawn a star using a combination of five v-shapes. You can either draw them individually and connect the v-shapes one by one, or you can draw the star without taking your pencil off the page. Completely up to you. Remember, your star does not need to be perfect-looking. Just give it a go. Even if your star is oddly shaped, it will likely still look like a star, and that’s what counts when it comes to doodling. 😊

how to doodle a wish 01

Step 2

To highlight that we are drawing a shooting star, let’s add three lines to our doodle. In the example below, I’ve used three long relatively flat arc shapes. These three lines point from the ground toward the star. Here, we are trying to create the impression that our star is moving in time and space, or in other words, across the sky. 😉

.

how to doodle a wish 02

Step 3

Let’s now add a few more small lines to our doodle. I’ve drawn these lines in between the three lines I drew in the previous step. These lines don’t add anything significant to our doodle. In some ways, they’re not really that necessary. The idea is to show that our star is moving along a path. You can, therefore, draw a combination of different types of lines. It makes no difference what those lines are as long as it can help visualize that our star is following a path in the night sky.

how to doodle a wish 03

Step 4

To give our star a little more energy in the night sky, let’s add what looks like droplets to the outside of the star. These droplets indicate that the star is radiating energy as it moves across the night sky.

how to doodle a wish 04

Step 5

The final step in our WISH doodle is to give our star some color. I’ve used a typical yellow color, but you can use any other color. Who says that stars are yellow anyways? 😉 Now that you have my example of what a WISH looks like in doodle format, what other ways can you think of to draw a WISH?

How to Doodle Wink

How to Doodle Wink

Step 1

If I asked you to doodle a WINK, what would you draw? Here, we want to create a very simple doodle the shows someone winking. More specifically, let’s just keep it very simple and show a face winking. Let’s have a look at how that might look like. To begin with, let’s draw the nose. For the nose, use three arc shapes of varied length and depth. In the example below, the longest arc is used for the bridge of the nose, while the shorter arcs are used to draw the nostrils.

how to doodle wink 01

Step 2

Now that we have our nose, let’s now draw the eyes. First, let’s draw the open eye. To doodle this eye use a couple of arc shapes and an oval shape for the iris. Now, as for the winking eye, we’ll draw this a little differently. An easy way to show that an eye is closed when doodling is to use a v-shape. In this example, I used a sideways v-shape for the winking eye.

.

how to doodle wink 02

Step 3

This is now starting to look like a face. We’ve made some good progress. But, let’s now also draw some eyebrows. For the eyebrows, let’s use a couple more arc shapes. Notice in the example below the positioning of the eyebrows and the angles at which they are drawn on our face. Because the one eye is winking, I’ve made the eyebrow a little more vertical. You can, of course, play around with this.

how to doodle wink 03

Step 4

The one thing that we are now missing is a mouth. To draw the mouth, we’ll again keep things very simple. We will use another couple more v-shapes for the outline of the mouth and the lips. Notice how the larger v-shape is above and the smaller v-shape is positioned below. Notice also the angles used to draw these v-shape lines. Your mouth doesn’t necessarily need to look like this. Feel free to play around with it. There are many possibilities you could try.

how to doodle wink 04

Step 5

The final step in our WINKING doodle is to give the iris of our eye some color. I have chosen the color brown, but you can choose the color green, blue, black or any other color you like. You can, if you wish, add some shadow lines to the face or even some added color. Not necessary in this instance, but completely up to you. I think we’ve done a good enough job to keep things as simple and straightforward as possible while getting the idea across that our character is winking. What do you think? Do you have any other ways you can think of to draw someone winking?

how to doodle whistle

How to Doodle Whistle

How to Doodle Whistle

Step 1

If someone asked you to doodle a WHISTLE, how would you draw it? There are a couple of ways we could tackle this. We could, for instance, draw the whistle in 2-dimensional space. However, for this example, let’s draw it in 3-dimensional space instead. It’s a little trickier but will be worth the extra effort. 😀 Begin by drawing an oval on the right side of your page. Notice in the example how there is a slight gap on the left side of the oval. It’s important to include this gap.

how to doodle whistle 01

Step 2

Extending from the gap, use a couple of long straight lines. Then, at the end of those lines, connect them using a short straight line. Notice also the angles of the long straight lines. Taking note of these angles will be important as we attempt to add a third dimension to our doodle.

how to doodle whistle 02

Step 3

Let’s now add this third dimension. This part might look a little tricky, but it really isn’t. What you’re doing here is mirroring parts of the shapes you drew in the first two steps. You are essentially following the curvature of the lines you drew for the oval and straight-line shapes. See the example below.

how to doodle whistle 03

Step 4

Your next step is to now connect all the shapes together. Closing the gaps between the lines gives us the 3-dimensional effect. I’ve also added a rectangle to the whistle for the air to come out. Without this, the whistle would be useless. 😞

how to doodle whistle 04

Step 5

The final step is to give your whistle doodle some color. Feel free to play around with the colors. In the example below I’ve used different shades of blue to distinguish the top, side, and inside of the whistle. When you use different shades of color, this gives your doodle a little more depth. It also distinguishes the different angles at which light reflects off the whistle. You can’t really go wrong here as the light can reflect from a variety of different angles. So feel free to play around with this.

How to Doodle Wealth

How to Doodle Wealth

Step 1

If someone asked you to doodle WEALTH, what would you draw? When it comes to WEALTH, a number of things come to mind including big houses, expensive cars, diamond rings, and money. From this list, money would be the easiest to represent in a simple doodle. But, just drawing money probably won’t get the right message across. We rather need to draw a large sum of money. And the best way to do that is to put all our money in a bag and use that bag as a representation of WEALTH. Let’s see what that might look like. Let’s begin our doodle by drawing the outside of our “money” bag. Use a single curved line to draw the outside shape of the bag. There are no hard and fast rules to follow. It’s just recommended to use one extended line and to make the lower section of the bag wider than the upper section as shown in the example below. Notice how I have left a gap at the top of our bag.

how to doodle wealth 01

Step 2

Let’s now fill this gap by sealing our bag at the top. For this, I have used a combination of wavy lines, straight lines, and arc shapes. This now makes it look as though our bag is sealed (tied) at the top. And it also means that all our cash won’t fall out of our bag. 🙄

how to doodle wealth 02

Step 3

At this stage, it looks like a bag filled with stuff. But what kind of stuff? It could just as easily be Santa’s big red bag filled with presents. 🎅 But, that’s not quite what we are doodling here. We want this bag to represent the idea of WEALTH. And the best way to do that is to draw the simple for the dollar on the front of the bag. If you use another currency, you can, of course, include the symbol for that currency on the front of your bag.

how to doodle wealth 03 1

Step 4

To make the idea of WEALTH pop out in our doodle, let’s emphasize different parts of our bag using a combination of v-shaped lines and curved lines. In the example below, I have drawn the focus and attention on the top part of our money bag and also on the bottom section. These lines give the impression that this bag is important. They kind of draw more attention to the bag. So, for instance, if you include other doodles around this money bag, then these additional lines will draw more attention to this bag than if you were not to use any lines at all. It’s kind of as if the bag is alive and vibrant.

how to doodle wealth 04

Step 5

The final step is to give our money bag some color. I’ve kept it simple in the example below and used a generic green color that typically represents money. And there we have it. This is one representation of wealth. But this, of course, isn’t the only way you could represent the idea of wealth. There are plenty of other options we could have considered. How many other ways could your represent the idea of wealth in a doodle?

How to Doodle Watch

How to Doodle Watch

Step 1

If someone asked you to doodle a WATCH, what would you draw? There are almost an endless amount of possibilities when it comes to drawing a watch. We could, in fact, tackle our watch doodle in numerous ways. But let’s approach it in a very straightforward way that makes it easy to draw. Let’s begin by drawing a couple of ovals in the middle of our page. You can draw either the small or large oval first. What’s important is to place the smaller oval inside the larger oval. This will become our watch face.

how to doodle watch 01

Step 2

Next, let’s give our watch face some added details. Let’s draw an analog watch face. To do this, use a combination of small straight lines, v-shaped lines, and a small oval. In the example below the time is approximately 4 o’clock, or close to it. 🧐 You can, of course, play around with the design of your watch face. You can even make it a digital watch face, or change it any which way you like.

how to doodle watch 02

Step 3

Now you have the option to either make your doodle a wristwatch or a handheld watch. For this example, let’s make it a wristwatch. We will, therefore, need to doodle a strap. Use a combination of straight lines to doodle the strap for your watch. Also, don’t forget to include the dial controller on the side. Use a combination of straight lines to doodle this as shown in the example.

how to doodle watch 03

Step 4

Let’s now give our strap a few more details. In the example below I’ve used straight lines and a couple of rectangles on the strap. You can, of course, play around with this and add more or fewer details on your strap. Feel free to even include different patterns or designs to give your strap some added personality. 😃

how to doodle watch 04

Step 5

The final step is to add a splash of color to our watch doodle. I’ve decided to go with traditional colors (brown for the strap, grey for the metal frame of the watch face, and light blue for the watch face itself. You can, of course, play around with the colors, and I’d like to encourage you to do so. And, so there we have it. This is our visual representation of a watch. How many other ways can you think of to doodle a watch?
