How to Doodle an Experiment

Step 1

drawing an experiment

If someone asked you to doodle an EXPERIMENT, what would you draw? How about a chemistry flask that scientists use? To begin your flask doodle, begin by drawing a very flat arc shape near the top of your page.

Step 2

draw an experiment

Let’s continue doodling the head of your flask by adding two vertical lines extending downward. Notice in the example the length of these lines and the spacing between them.

Step 3

doodling an experiment

Let’s now add what looks like a triangle or pyramid shape which will become the base of our flask. Notice the angle of the lines and how they are rounded on the corners.

Step 4

doodle an experiment

For this to look like an experiment, we must add some liquid and doodle some bubbles. Use a wavy line to show the level of the liquid. Then use oval shapes for the bubbles bubbling up from the surface of the liquid. Notice how some bubbles are larger and some are smaller.

Step 5

how to doodle an experiment

Add the finishing touches to your experiment doodle by adding some measuring lines on the side of the flask, and also by giving it some color. Notice how the top part of the flask has a blueish color. This color is great to use to represent glass surfaces.

How to Doodle Evolution

Step 1

drawing evolution

If someone asked you to draw the idea of EVOLUTION, what would you doodle? Well, how we start with four circles on the page. Notice the size of these circles and how they are positioned within the example. These circles will become the heads of our cartoon characters.

Step 2

draw evolution

Under the second, third and fourth circle, use three lines to draw the bodies of our characters. Notice how the size of each body gets larger as we move from left to right.

Step 3

doodling evolution

Doodle some feet and arms to the two bodies on the far right. Notice how the third cartoon character from the left has short legs and hands behind their back. Notice also how the cartoon character on the far right has longer legs and outstretched arms.

Step 4

doodle evolution

Now, to show that this is a process of evolution, draw an arrow moving from left to right.

Step 5

how to doodle evolution

To finish things off, give you evolution doodle some color. You can, of course, use a variety of colors here. I have chosen in this example to use complementary colors. How else could you doodle the idea of EVOLUTION?

How to Doodle Evidence

How to Doodle Evidence

Step 1

drawing evidence

If someone asked you to doodle EVIDENCE, what would you draw? How about a magnifying glass hovering over droplets of blood. To begin your magnifying doodle, draw a circle in the middle of your page.

Step 2

draw evidence

Now draw another larger circle around the original circle you drew in step 1. Notice how the distance between the two circles is even all the way around.

Step 3

doodling evidence

To draw the handle of your magnifying glass, use an elongated arc shape that connects to the glass portion of your magnifying glass.

Step 4

doodle evidence

Now time to draw the evidence. For the evidence, let’s draw droplets of blood. And that, of course, sounds gruesome, 🙁 so if you want you can doodle anything else. You can even turn the droplets of blood into droplets of water. Notice how the droplets that are within the area of the magnifying glass are larger than the droplets outside.

Step 5

how to doodle evidence

Add the finishing touches to your evidence doodle by giving it some color. Notice how the glass area has a slight blue tinge. This gives us the impression that there is a glass element in the magnifying glass.

How to Doodle an Engine

How to Doodle an Engine

Step 1

drawing an engine

How would you doodle an engine? Seems pretty complicated. Let’s break it down step-by-step. It’s a little challenging to explain the first step. The idea here is to draw straight lines. Pay particular attention to the angles of the lines and the spacing between the lines. This will become the main body of our engine doodle.

Step 2

draw an engine

Next, let’s doodle the first moving and spinning part of the engine. Use straight lines and two triangle shapes here. Notice how one triangle is upright, and the other is upside-down.

Step 3

doodling an engine

Next, doodle the same shape on top of the engine. This time, however, everything is stretched out vertically rather than horizontally as we drew it in step 2.

Step 4

doodle an engine

Let’s now give our engine doodle a third-dimension. Here we will just draw four straight lines on the back of the engine. Notice the angles of the lines and the distance between the lines.

Step 5

how to doodle an engine

Add the finishing touches to your engine doodle by giving it some color. You can if you like to decorate the body of the engine a little with a name or some graffiti. 🙂

How to Doodle Energy

Step 1

drawing energy

If someone asked you to doodle a representation of ENERGY, what would you draw? How about a battery. Begin by drawing an elongated rectangle in the middle of your page. Notice how the rectangle is on a 45-degree angle. Notice also how the ends of this rectangle are slightly curved.

Step 2

draw energy

At the two ends of this rectangle, use an arc shape on the bottom end, and a rectangle shape on the top end. This will become the ends of our battery doodle.

Step 3

doodling energy

To show that the battery is powered up, let’s doodle a Z in the middle. But let’s make this Z look somewhat like a lightning bolt. Notice how the lightning bolt is a combination of two Z’s that are fused together. Notice also the angle of this Z.

Step 4

doodle energy

To show that our battery is full of energy, let’s add v-shaped lines around the center. This gives us the impression that the battery is charged up and ready to get to work. 🙂

Step 5

how to doodle energy

Add the finishing touches to your battery doodle by giving it some color. Batteries, of course, come in a variety of colors. Therefore, feel free to experiment a little and use your imagination. 🙂

How to Doodle Encouragement

Step 1

drawing encouragement

If someone asked you to doodle the word “encouragement”, what would you draw? How about a cheerleader. Begin your cheerleader doodle by drawing an arc shape and combining it with an upside-down v-shape. This will become the head of your cheerleader.

Step 2

how to doodle an encouragement 02

Let’s now doodle the hair of our cheerleader. Out cheerleader will be female, so we will use long curved lines around the head for the hair. Notice how the lines are symmetrical on either side of the head. Notice also how the bottom section of the hair finishes in a v-shape.

Step 3

doodling encouragement

For the arms of our cheerleader, use slightly curved lines that stretch upwards. Notice how the arms on both sides of the body are relatively the same length and size. For this doodle, we are trying to keep things as symmetrical as possible.

Step 4

doodle encouragement

Time now to doodle the pom poms. To draw these pom poms, use cloud shapes. Pretend as though you are drawing a cloud at the end of each arm. Notice how there is also a second cloud at the back of the first cloud on each side. Notice also how the clouds almost mirror one another. This doesn’t need to be perfect. Just do the best you can. 🙂

Step 5

how to doodle encouragement

Add the finishing touches to your encouragement doodle by adding some m-shapes and w-shapes on the pom poms, then giving your cheerleader doodle some color.

How to Doodle an Elevator

Step 1

drawing an elevator

To doodle an elevator, begin by drawing a rectangle in the middle of your page. Now, split that rectangle into two parts by drawing a line through the middle of the rectangle. This now gives you two upright rectangles.

Step 2

draw an elevator

Around the two rectangles, you drew in step 1, doodle another rectangle. Notice the spacing between this rectangle and the original two rectangles. You want to make sure the spacing isn’t too large. These rectangles now become our elevator doors.

Step 3

doodling an elevator

At the moment our elevator doodle still doesn’t quite look like an elevator. We will, therefore, need to add some more details. For this step, doodle a small rectangle above your elevator doors. Then on the right, doodle an upright triangle, and an upside-down triangle. Then near the bottom, draw two lines for the floor on either side of our elevator doors.

Step 4

doodle an elevator

This is now starting to look like an elevator. Let’s, however, add a few numbers to the top rectangle. Add the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. These are the floor numbers for our elevator.

Step 5

how to doodle an elevator

Add the finishing touches to your elevator doodle by drawing several straight lines on the doors for shading purposes. Then give your elevator doodle some needed color.

How to Doodle an Election

Step 1

drawing an election

If someone asked you to doodle an ELECTION, what would you draw? How about a ballot box. To begin your election ballot box doodle, draw an upright rectangle in the middle of your page.

Step 2

draw an election

Now, below this rectangle, doodle a slim vertical rectangle. Notice how the rectangle we drew in step 1 overlaps our second rectangle. Therefore, this second rectangle is partially hidden behind our first rectangle drawing.

Step 3

doodling an election

Let’s now create a border around our two rectangles. Use five lines to draw this border. Notice how this border surrounds the two rectangles on the bottom, left, and right, but goes behind the upright rectangle on the topside. Notice also the angles of the lines. This will become the top of your ballot box.

Step 4

doodle an election

To doodle the front of your ballot box, use three straight lines. One horizontal line and two vertical lines connecting to the topside of your ballot box.

Step 5

how to doodle an election

Add the finishing touches to your election doodle by drawing a tick and by adding a little text to give the doodle some context. Then color your ballot box and add some shading to the slot where we place our ballot. And now you have your election doodle.

How to Doodle an Earthquake

Step 1

drawing an earthquake

If someone asked you to doodle an earthquake, what would you draw? How about a shaking building with a few finer details. 🙂 Begin your doodle by drawing a rectangle that’s missing its bottom side in the middle of your page. This shape will eventually become your building.

Step 2

draw an earthquake

Coming out through the bottom of this rectangle, draw zig-zag lines. Notice how two sets of zig-zag lines have been drawn. Notice also how they meet together at each end. Kind of looks like a lightning bolt.

Step 3

doodling an earthquake

Let’s now draw the ground that our building rests on. Use two slightly curved lines for this purpose. Notice the positioning, length, and angle of the lines in relation to the building. Also, notice how the lightning bolt is partially above the ground while a large part is below the ground.

Step 4

doodle an earthquake

Use four squares to doodle the windows on your building. If you want you can experiment by doodling more or fewer windows. You can even draw a door and a roof. Feel free to experiment with this.

Step 5

how to doodle an earthquake

Add the finishing touches to your earthquake doodle by drawing four zig-zag lines on either side of the building. This gives us the impression that the building is shaking. Then finish things off by giving your earthquake doodle some color. This is, of course, not the only way we could draw an earthquake. Feel free to experiment drawing other representations of an earthquake.

How to Doodle a Duck

Step 1

drawing a duck

To doodle a duck, begin by drawing an oval in the middle of your page. Notice how I haven’t closed the oval within the example. It’s important to leave a small gap on the bottom side of the oval shape.

Step 2

draw a duck

Next, use curved lines to draw the body of your duck. Notice the size and length of the curved lines. Also, notice the side “M” shape that forms out duck’s tail.

Step 3

doodling a duck

To draw the beak of your duck, use three curved lines. Start with the line on top, then draw the bottom curved lines, then finish off with the middle curved line. Then for the duck’s eye, use an oval shape. Feel free to play around with the size and shape of the eye.

Step 4

doodle a duck

Draw the duck’s wings using two conjoined curved lines. It’s difficult to see within the example, but if you look closely you will see that I have combined two curved lines to form the wing shape. I have then added another side “M” shape to add extra details to the wings. Also, don’t forget to doodle the fluff of your duck’s head. Use another side “M” shape here combined with an upsidedown “V” shape.

Step 5

how to doodle a duck

Add the finishing touches to your duck doodle by giving it some color and placing your duck on water. Notice the different shapes of color used within the example on the duck’s body and beak.
