How to Doodle Toxic

Step 1

drawing toxic

If someone asked you to draw the idea of something being Toxic or Poisonous, what would you draw? How about a creepy looking bottle with a skull? Let’s give it a go. Use one curved u-shaped like to draw the body of your bottle. Notice how the bottle is wider on the bottom and narrows quite considerably near the top.

Step 2

draw toxic

Use a combination of straight lines and arc shapes to draw the lid for our bottle. Then use two additional arc shapes to draw the border of our label on the body of the bottle.

Step 3

doodling toxic

For the skull part of our doodle, use a combination of arc-shapes, ovals, straight lines, and a triangle. Notice the size of the eyes and nose in relation to the head of our skull in the example.

Step 4

doodle toxic

To make this bottle look slightly more toxic, let’s draw crossbones. Use a combination of straight lines and arc shapes to draw the bones. Notice how the bones are angled at 45-degrees away from the skull area.

Step 5

how to doodle toxic

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of Toxic or Poison. How many other ways can you think of to draw the idea of something being toxic in a simple way?

How to Doodle Thinking

How to Doodle Thinking

Step 1

drawing thinking

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of THINKING, what would you draw? When I think about the idea of THINKING, I visualize a head and a mechanism of some sort working inside that head that generates the thoughts. Let’s see if we can draw this out. Begin by drawing an arc shape in the middle of your page. Notice the size and width of this arc shape in the example. This will become the back and top of our head doodle.

Step 2

draw thinking

Next, let’s draw the front of the head. Specifically, the nose, chin and neck area. Use a combination of arc shapes and curved lines to draw the outline of these areas. This now completes the head area of our doodle. Next, we will look what’s happening inside the head when we have a thought.

Step 3

doodling thinking

Let’s now draw the thought processing that is going on inside the head. To visualize this, let’s draw a couple of cogs in a wheel. Use a combination of oval shapes and straight lines to draw your two cogs. Notice how one of them is a little smaller than the other.

Step 4

doodle thinking

Next, surround your cogs using a cloud shape. We are using a cloud shape here because it helps symbolize a thought process going on inside the head. The cloud shape is essentially a combination of small arc shapes drawn around the two cogs.

Step 5

how to doodle thinking

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of THINKING. We have the head, then inside the head we have cogs in a wheel that symbolize the thought process churning away inside the brain. How many other ways can you think of to visualize the idea of THINKING about something?

How to Doodle Teamwork

Step 1

drawing teamwork

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of TEAMWORK, what would you draw? We could go about this a number of different ways. Let’s, however, look at a very simple icon heavy example. Begin your Teamwork doodle by drawing three small ovals on your page. Notice how these ovals are spaced in the example. These ovals will become the heads of your icon characters.

Step 2

draw teamwork

Use arc shapes to draw a body for each of your icon characters. The arc shapes are used for the left side, the right side and the lower body area. Here we now have three individual characters. We must, however, show that they are a team and working together for the same objective or goal.

Step 3

doodling teamwork

To show that these icon characters are interconnected, let’s link them together by using a Venn Diagram. Simply draw a circle around each character. Notice how you are not drawing a full circle. You are just drawing the circle from the head to the body. Notice also how the circles overlap in the middle. This will be important for our next step.

Step 4

doodle teamwork

Where the Venn Diagram overlaps, that is where each of our characters share a mutual interest. In other words, where it overlaps, that is where we will place our goal. And to represent our goal, we will draw a simple star shape. However, you can draw another shape that would symbolize a mutual goal. This now highlights that everyone is working towards the same goal as a team.

Step 5

how to doodle teamwork

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of TEAMWORK. Can you see the symbolism here and how it works in a doodle format? How many other ways can you think of to visualize the idea of teamwork in the form of a simple doodle?

How to Doodle Teaching

Step 1

drawing teaching

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of TEACHING, what would you draw? Let’s draw a very simple classroom scene using basic icons to get this idea across in our visual notes. First, begin by drawing the whiteboard. Notice how straight lines were used for all sides of the whiteboard. Notice also how a gap was left on the left side of the whiteboard. We will fill this gap in a little later. You can also write A, B, C on the board, or anything else you like to demonstrate a lesson plan.

Step 2

draw teaching

Let’s now draw a very simple person icon. This icon will become our teacher. Use an oval shape for the head and arc shapes for the body of our icon character.

Step 3

doodling teaching

Let’s now show that our teacher is going through something on our whiteboard. To do this, we will draw a very simple arm and a pointer. Use a combination of straight lines and an arc shape to draw the teacher’s arm and pointer.

Step 4

doodle teaching

It’s not really teaching unless we have an audience. Let’s draw our audience of pupils or students using simple icons. Again, use an oval shape for each head and arc shapes for the body. No need to add additional details. This pretty much gets the idea across that these icons are students.

Step 5

how to doodle teaching

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. Also, add three straight lines above the teachers and above one of the student’s heads to indicate that they are talking or engaged in a conversation. You will also notice that I filled in the gap on the whiteboard. So there we have it. This is our visual representation of TEACHING something. How many other ways can you think of to draw the idea of teaching something?

how to doodle a task

How to Doodle a Task

How to Doodle a Task

Step 1

draw a task

If someone asked you to visualize a TASK, what would you draw? When I think of a task, I imagine a clipboard with checkboxes and ticks for completed tasks. Let’s give this a go. Begin your doodle by drawing the top of your clipboard. Use a combination or arc shapes and straight lines to draw the clip area.

Step 2

drawing a task

Use straight lines to draw the board. Notice how in the example it looks like there are two rectangles. One larger rectangle and the other smaller rectangle inside the larger one. The larger rectangle is the board, while the smaller rectangle is the sheet of paper held by the clip.

Step 3

doodling a task

Let’s now draw three tasks on the board. Use small rectangle shapes for the checkboxes, and then wavy lines for the task names. No need to write actual words when it comes to doodling. All we need to do is just scribble something that looks like a bunch of jumbled words. 🙂

Step 4

doodle a task

To highlight that these tasks have been completed successfully, draw a big checkmark (tick) on the bottom right-hand corner of the board. We could, of course, have just checked all the boxes, but adding one big tick to the bottom gets the same idea across that all these tasks have been completed successfully.

Step 5

how to doodle a task

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a task that you can now use in your visual notes. Feel free to also add this to your visual vocabulary. And, of course, keep practicing each day. Only with practice will you get better at doodling. Step 1

how to doodle a tablet 01

If someone asked you to doodle a tablet, what would you draw? We could, of course, draw a simple rectangular tablet. But rather than just doing that, let’s make our tablet doodle a little more visually appealing by including a hand on the tablet. Use elongated arc shapes to draw the fingers of the hand that will be resting on the tablet. Notice how the index finger is longer than the other fingers on our hand.

Step 2

how to doodle a tablet 02

Use a combination of straight and curved lines to draw the thumb, wrist and shirt sleeve area. Pay specific attention to the angles of all the lines in this doodle.

Step 3

doodling a tablet

Let’s now draw the tablet. Use straight lines to draw your tablet. You are essentially drawing a couple of rectangles. Notice how the rectangles are positioned behind the hand in the example.

Step 4

doodle a tablet

Let’s now add a few more details to our doodle. Use ovals and squares to draw the buttons on the tablet. Then doodle several straight lines around the outside of the index finger to highlight that the finger is tapping the tablet.

Step 5

how to doodle a tablet

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a tablet with a hand. How to Doodle a Spy

Step 1

drawing a spy

If someone asked you to doodle a SPY, what would you draw? As usual, let’s try and keep this very simple. All we need to do is get the idea of a spy across through our doodle. And when I think of a spy, I visualize a person dressed in black, wearing a hat with sunglasses. Let’s give this a try. First, let’s start with the hat. To draw the spy’s hat, use a combination of v-shapes and straight lines. In the example it kind of looks like a mountain range.

Step 2

draw a spy

Next, let’s draw some facial features. Use straight lines for the eyebrows. Then use a straight line and two arc shapes for the nose. And for the sunglasses, use a combination of straight lines for the frame and arc shapes for the lenses. Notice the angles of all the lines used in the example.

Step 3

doodling a spy

Use a combination of straight lines, arc shapes, and v-shapes to draw the spy’s tie. Notice how we are keeping this very simple. No need to complicate things. All we are striving to do is to get the idea across that this is a spy. No drawing classes needed. 😉

Step 4

doodle a spy

Let’s now doodle the suit that our spy is wearing. Again, let’s keep this very simple. Use a combination of straight lines to draw the suit. Notice the angles of the lines and how they get narrow as they come down to the hip area.

Step 5

how to doodle a spy

Add the finishing touches to your spy doodle by giving it some color. And the right color seems to be black. 🙂 We’ll keep the tie white so that it stands out in our doodle. And there we have it. This is our simple visual representation of a spy that you can now use in your visual notes. How many other ways can you think of to doodle a spy?

how to doodle small

How to Doodle Small

How to Doodle Small

Step 1

drawing small

If someone asked you to draw the idea of something or someone being SMALL, what would you draw? For this, we will need to use a comparison. For instance, a salt shaker is something that we typically view as being small. So let’s start by drawing a salt shaker. Draw the outline of your salt shaker as shown in the example above. Use a combination of arc shapes, straight and curved lines.

Step 2

draw small

Add some more details to your salt shaker using arc shapes, straight lines, and dots. Then add the words SALT on the label to highlight that this is an actual salt shaker.

Step 3

doodling small

Salt shakers are typically very small. They fit in the palm of our hand. On the other hand, people are much larger than salt shakers. However, to represent the idea of something being small, let’s draw a doodle character who is smaller than the salt shaker. This will give us the perspective of something being small compared to the salt shaker. Use an oval shape and several curved lines to draw the head and body of your doodle character.

Step 4

doodle smal

Use straight lines for the arms and legs. Then use ovals and arc shapes for the hands and feet. Notice the positioning of the arms and how this gives us the impression that our doodle character is resting or leaning on the salt shaker. Feel free to play around with different variations of arm and leg positioning.

Step 5

how to doodle small

Finish things off by giving your doodle some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of something being SMALL. There are, of course, many other ways we could visually represent the idea of something being small. How many other ways can you doodle this?

How to Doodle Sinking

Step 1

drawing sinking

If someone asked you to visualize someone or something SINKING, what would you draw? How about a doodle character struggling to stay above the water? Begin your doodle by drawing two arc shapes. One large arc shape that will become the head of our doodle character, and a smaller arc shape for the nose.

Step 2

draw sinking

Use a cloud shape to doodle the hair of your doodle character. Then for the mouth, use a combination of an arc shape and a straight line. Make sure to draw the mouth nice and large. We want to insert a few more details in there. 🙂

Step 3

doodling sinking

Inside the mouth, let’s draw some teeth and a tongue. Use a 3-sided rectangle shape for each of the teeth. Then use a combination of two arc shapes for the tongue. Next, draw the arms and hands on either side of our doodle character. Use straight lines for the arms and elongated arc shapes for the fingers. You will notice that our character only has three fingers and a thumb. It’s just a little easier to draw than a full set of four fingers and a thumb. Notice also how the arms are dangling in midair. This is where we will add the waves of the water.

Step 4

doodle sinking

To draw the waves, use wavey lines. Then draw several dots on the waves that will represent water bubbles. Notice how the arms and head are popping out directly from behind the wave.

Step 5

how to doodle sinking

Add three straight lines above the head to highlight that this is somewhat of a distressing moment. Then finish things up by giving your doodle some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of SINKING. How many other ways can you think of to doodle the idea of sinking?
