How to Doodle Hiding

Step 1

drawing hiding

If someone asked you to doodle HIDING, what would you draw? How about a cartoon character hiding behind a wall. To begin your doodle, draw a half oval shape as shown within the example. This oval shape will become the head of our cartoon character.

Step 2

draw hiding

To draw the facial features of your cartoon character, use arc shapes for the eyes and nose. Then use several more arc shapes for the eyebrows and hair. Then add a couple of dots for the pupils of the eyes.

Step 3

doodling hiding

We want to show that our cartoon character is peering over a wall. We will, therefore, show him holding onto the wall with his fingers. To draw these fingers use elongated oval shapes doodled side by side. Doodle three on each side of the head.

Step 4

doodle hiding

Let’s now draw the top section of the wall. This is the section of the wall that our cartoon character is holding onto with their fingers. Use several straight lines to draw the wall. Notice how the wall extends right below the top visible section of the fingers, below the visible part of the head, and right under the nose.

Step 5

how to doodle hiding

Add the finishing touches to your hiding doodle by giving it some color. And there you have it. This is one way you can visualize the idea of HIDING from something in your visual notes. How many other ways can you think of to visualize the idea of hiding?

How to Doodle a Heartbeat

Step 1

draw a heartbeat

If someone asked you to draw a heartbeat, how would you visualize it? Drawing a heart seems easy enough, but doodling a heartbeat makes things a little more tricky. But let’s give it a go. 🙂 Begin your heartbeat doodle by drawing to upside-down oval shapes in the middle of your page. These shapes will become the top section of our heart.

Step 2

drawing a heartbeat

Let’s now doodle a visual representation of the rhythm of our heart. To do this, use a combination of straight and v-shaped lines. Notice the angles of the lines within the example. You can copy this exactly, or mix things up a little. Now we have a visual representation of the beating rhythm of our heart.

Step 3

doodling a heartbeat

Use curved lines for the bottom section of your heart. Notice where these lines converge on the very bottom of your page. Notice also the angle and flow of these lines in the example.

Step 4

doodle a heartbeat

To show that the heart is beating, draw several curved lines on the outside of the heart. These curved lines visualize that there is a beating rhythm to our heart.

Step 5

how to doodle a heartbeat

Add the finishing touches to your heartbeat doodle by giving it some color. And there you have it. This is our visual representation of a heartbeat. But I’m sure there are other ways we could visualize a heartbeat. How many other ways can you think of?

How to Doodle a Headache

Step 1

drawing a headache

If someone asked you to doodle a visual representation of a headache, what would you draw? There are a number of ways we could go about this. Let’s take a look at one example. Begin by drawing an oval in the middle of your page. Notice how the oval isn’t fully closed on the top right section. This is done on purpose as you will see below. This oval becomes the head of our cartoon character.

Step 2

draw a headache

Use two curved lines to draw the body of your cartoon character. Notice the length of these two lines. Notice also how they mirror each other. This now becomes the top part of the body for our cartoon character.

Step 3

doodling a headache

Let’s now doodle an excruciating face on our cartoon character. We want to show that our character is in pain. Use v-shapes for the eyes, an arc-shape for the nose and an upside-down curved shape for the mouth. Notice how in combination these shapes show that our character is in some kind of discomfort.

Step 4

doodle a headache

Now, to visualize that our character is experiencing a headache, we are going to doodle what looks like a lightning bolt shooting through his head. Use straight lines and v-shapes to draw this lightning bolt. Notice how a part of this lightning bolt is outside the head and a part of it is inside the head.

Step 5

How to doodle a headache

Add the finishing touches to your headache doodle by giving it some color. Notice also how I have added several curved lines on the side of the head to indicate that the head is moving slightly from side to side. This tends to add a little more emphasis on the pain aspect of our doodle. And there you have it. This is a doodle of a headache. But this is, of course, just one way to visualize a headache. What other ideas come to mind?

How to Doodle a Haunted House

Step 1

drawing a haunted house

If someone asked you to visualize a haunted house, what would you draw? What does a haunted house even look like? Not an easy answer. But let’s doodle something and see how it goes. 😉 First off, haunted houses are kind of oddly shaped and include multiple stories. So let’s draw an odd shape of a house with a ground floor and tower-like structure in the middle. Notice the rounded corners and the free-flowing lines in the example.

Step 2

draw a haunted house

Let’s continue with the odd shapes for our haunted house. Let’s now doodle another storey to the side of our main haunted building. Notice the triangle-like structure of these shapes. Also, notice the curved and unpredictable lines. You can, essentially, use your imagination here are draw a variety of different shapes.

Step 3

doodling a haunted house

Every haunted house has large and oddly shaped windows. So let’s draw them in. Use straight lines for this purpose, but mix up the angles of your lines to give each window an odd shape. Follow the example above, or create your own variation of these windows.

Step 4

doodle a haunted house

Haunted houses are occupied by a variety of ghosts, ghouls, bats, and other nasty critters. Therefore, let’s showcase that this house is haunted by drawing a ghost figure at the top right of our house. Feel free to experiment with the size and facial expressions of your ghost.

Step 5

how to doodle a haunted house

Add the finishing touches to your Haunted House doodle by giving it some color. Haunted houses are often dark and creepy. Therefore, it’s a good idea to use dark colors in your doodle. And there you have it. This is our haunted house. But this is only one way to draw a haunted house. How else could you vary up this doodle and draw it a little differently?

How to doodle a habit

How to Doodle a Habit

How to Doodle a Habit

Step 1

drawing a habit

If someone asked you to visualize a HABIT, what would you draw? How about the act of brushing your teeth each day? But how would we visualize that in a simple and practical way? Well, let’s take a look. Begin by drawing a toothbrush in the middle of your page. Notice the various visual alphabet shapes used to doodle our toothbrush. Stick to very simple and straightforward lines and angles.

Step 2

draw a habit

Now that we have our toothbrush in place, let’s take a look at demonstrating that this is a habit. To begin with, let’s draw our moon icon that will represent the habit of brushing our teeth at night.

Step 3

doodling a habit

Next, let’s draw our rising sun icon, which will represent brushing our teeth first thing in the morning. This is a great start, but it still doesn’t quite visualize the idea of a habit. How do we do that?

Step 4

doodle a habit

To visualize the idea of a habit and to connect the toothbrush with morning and nighttime, we will need to use a couple of arrows. Notice how in the example I have used two curved arrows that point in a clockwise direction. This is to show that brushing our teeth is a cycle that transitions from morning to night and back to morning again. This now gives us the impression that this is something that people do daily.

Step 5

How to doodle a habit

To finish off your doodle, give it some needed color. And there you have it. This is our HABIT doodle. You could, of course, replace the toothbrush with anything else you might do in the morning and at nighttime. I used a toothbrush because it’s something that most people do consistently without too much thought. But this is, of course, only one way to visualize a HABIT. How many other ways can you think of?

How to Doodle a Guru

Step 1

drawing a guru

If someone asked you to visualize a GURU, what would you draw? Let’s take a look at an example. To begin with draw a triangle with rounder corners. Notice how the top section of the triangle creates an arc-shape. This will become the body of your guru.

Step 2

draw a guru

To draw the head of your Guru, doodle an oval that connects to the top section of the body you drew in step 1. Notice how this isn’t a full oval shape.

Step 3

doodling a guru

To draw the legs of your Guru character, use a wide arc-shape. Notice how this arc shape extends beyond the length of the top section of the Guru’s body. This is a great start, but at this stage, our doodling doesn’t really look like much. Kind of looks like a chess pawn. 🙂

Step 4

doodle a guru

Let’s now add some details to make our doodle look more like a Guru. Notice the straight lines and arc shapes used on the legs the arms and the face of our Guru figure. These are all very simple shapes. And with these shapes in place, we can now see our Guru character come to life. 🙂

Step 5

How to doodle a guru

Add the finishing touches to your Guru character by giving him some color. You can, of course, play around with the colors. And there you have it. We now have our Guru figure that you can doodle in just a few seconds. 🙂

How to Doodle Growth

How to Doodle Growth

Step 1

drawing growth

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of GROWTH or of something GROWING, what would you draw? How about a graph of growing plants. Here is what it would look like. First, let’s draw the outside of the graph. Use three straight lines as shown within the example. Notice the angles of the lines, especially the top long line that’s pointing upwards on a 45-degree angle.

Step 2

draw growth

To show that there is an upward movement here, let’s turn this line into an arrow. To do this, draw a triangle at the end of this line. Notice how the triangle is pointing upward at a 45-degree angle.

Step 3

doodling growth

Let’s now draw a graph that shows a progressive increase over time. One of the best and simplest ways to visualize growth is by drawing plants. So, for this example, let’s doodle leaves or a closed flower bud. Notice how within the example these flower buds have been draw progressively higher. Notice also how the height of the flower buds mirrors the angle of our graph line.

Step 4

doodle growth

Let’s now draw the stem of our flower. To do this, use curvy lines as shown within the example. Notice how the lines get progressively longer as we move from left to right along the graph.

Step 5

how to doodle growth

Add the finishing touches to your GROWTH doodle by giving it some color. And there you have it. This is our representation of GROWTH. You can, of course, substitute the flower buds or leaves with another item. This is just one example. And there are many more ways we could potentially visualize the idea of GROWTH. What other ways can you think of?

how to doodle greed

How to Doodle Greed

How to Doodle Greed

Step 1

drawing greed

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of GREED or BEING GREEDY in a picture, what would you draw? This isn’t an easy one. Greed, however, is often associated with money. Therefore, let’s use that as the theme for our doodle. To begin with, draw two ovals side-by-side in the middle of your page. Then around these ovals, draw two larger ovals as shown within the example. These ovals will become the lenses of our glasses.

Step 2

draw greed

To draw the frame of your glasses, use straight lines. Notice in the example the length of each line and the angles used. Notice also where these lines intersect with the ovals we drew in step 1.

Step 3

doodling greed

To doodle the face of our greedy character, use a couple of arc-shapes. Then for the teeth, use another arc shape in combination with several straight lines. For the tongue of our character, use a wavy shape that kind of looks like an “m”.

Step 4

doodle greed

For the nose of our greedy character, use another arc-shape. Notice how this arc shape is quite deep and that the two ends of the shape almost come together at the top. Then to show that all our character is thinking about is money, let’s draw a couple of dollar symbols reflecting in his glasses.

Step 5

how to doodle greed

Finish off your GREEDY doodle by giving it some color. This is, of course, just one way to doodle the idea of GREED. There are possibly many other ways you could also represent GREED. What ideas come to mind?

how to doodle gravity

How to Doodle Gravity

How to Doodle Gravity

Step 1

drawing gravity

If someone asked you to visualize GRAVITY, what would you draw? This is a tough one since gravity is imperceptible. However, it is possible to represent it in a visual by using something we are already familiar with. For this doodle, let’s draw a representation of our solar system to visualize gravity. Begin your doodle by drawing a circle in the middle of your page. This circle will become the center of our gravity field.

Step 2

draw gravity

Around this circle, draw numerous v-shapes as shown within the example. This now becomes our sun which lies at the center of our gravity field.

Step 3

doodling gravity

Around our sun, let’s draw three larger circles. Notice the spacing and size of each of the three circles. These circles will become the orbits of planets revolving around the sun.

Step 4

doodle gravity

To help us represent the idea of GRAVITY, let’s now draw these planets. Doodle three circle shapes along each of our orbits. These circle shapes will become our planets orbiting around the sun.

Step 5

how to doodle gravity

Add the finishing touches to your GRAVITY doodle by giving it some color. And there you have it. This is just one visual representation of gravity. How many other ways can you think of that would help us to visualize gravity?

How to Doodle Gossip

How to Doodle Gossip

Step 1

drawing gossip

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of GOSSIP, what would you draw? How about two icon characters talking to each other. To begin your doodle, draw two circles in the middle of your page. These two circles will become the heads of our two characters. Notice how I have also added a small arc shape to each circle. These arc shapes represent the noses of our characters.

Step 2

draw gossip

To draw the body of our two characters, use a combination of three arc shapes for each body. Notice how some arc shapes are slightly more curved than others. Because we are trying to keep our doodle as simple as possible, we won’t be adding any more details to the body of our two characters. This is enough to get our idea across that these are to people in conversation.

Step 3

doodling gossip

Let’s now draw a talking bubble above the two heads. Use an oval shape for this purpose. Notice how there are two v-shapes that break up the bubble pointing at each of our characters. This is to show that they are sharing a conversation.

Step 4

doodle gossip

To highlight that there is an actual conversation going on between these two characters, I have added squiggly lines to the talking bubble. These squiggly/wavy lines represent words shared by our two characters.

Step 5

how to doodle gossip

To finish off, give your characters some color. And there you have it. This is now our GOSSIP visual. So the next time someone asks you to visualize GOSSIP you will know what to draw. However, this is only one way of representing the word GOSSIP. How many other ways can you think of?
