How to Doodle a Reminder

Step 1

drawing a reminder

If someone asked you to visualize a REMINDER, what would you draw? A visual representation of a reminder could come in many different forms. However, one way that stands out, comes in the form of a piece of string tied to a finger. A nice way to remind ourselves to do something. Let’s see what this looks like. Begin by drawing the index finger. Use an elongated arc shape to show that this finger is pointing upwards.

Step 2

draw a reminder

Use a curved line to represent the thumb under the index finger. In the example, the thumb is drawn in one stroke. You can either draw it in one stroke without lifting your pencil, or you can divide it up into parts. When drawing the thumb, pay particular attention to the angle that the thumb is pointing.

Step 3

doodling a reminder

Let’s now draw three additional fingers. Use a combination of curved lines and arc shapes to draw these three fingers. Then use another curved line to draw the outside palm of the hand. Hands are tricky to draw, but if you stick with it and follow the example, with practice they will become second nature. 🙂

Step 4

doodle a reminder

To remind ourselves to take out the trash tomorrow, let’s tie a piece of string to our index finger. 😉 Use several curved lines to draw the piece of string. Also, use a combination of several straight lines to draw the shirt sleeve.

Step 5

how to doodle a reminder

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a REMINDER. You could, if you wanted to, add a few more details to the hand such as the creases on the fingers and the fingernails. But when it comes to doodling, this is enough to get our message across. How many other ways can you think of to doodle a reminder?

How to Doodle Quit

Step 1

drawing quit

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of someone QUITTING something, what would you draw? Many people try and quit smoking. So let’s use quitting smoking as our visual. Begin by drawing a couple of arc shapes facing each other on a 45-degree angle. Next, draw a line on each arc shape that closes the shape. So, effectively you are left with two half-pizza shapes.

Step 2

draw quit

Along the outside, draw an oval shape. I say “oval” because a circle shape is perfectly round. And that is very difficult to do when drawing by hand. But we can certainly get away with an oval that doesn’t need to be perfectly round. 🙂

Step 3

doodling quit

Use a combination of straight lines to draw the cigarette shape. Notice how the cigarette is partially hidden behind the thick line going through the middle of the oval shape. This gives us the impression that the cigarette is in the background.

Step 4

doodle quit

Let’s now make this shape look more like a cigarette. To do this, use a combination of straight and curved lines. The curved lines represent the cigarette smoke.

Step 5

how to doodle quit

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of QUITTING something. In this case, it represents quitting smoking. However, you can use this visual to represent making other things as well. You might just need to replace the cigarette with another visual. Try it out using different doodles and see how it goes.

Step 1

drawing quiet

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of being QUIET, what would you draw? How about a zipper face? 😉 To begin with, draw an oval in the middle of your page. This oval will become the head of your character. Next, use a couple of arc-shapes to doodle an ear on the left and right side of the head.

Step 2

draw quiet

Use two arc-shapes to draw the eyes. Then use another two smaller arc shapes to draw the pupils of the eyes. In this example, we are drawing the pupils in such a way that they are looking downwards at the mouth.

Step 3

doodling quiet

Use another arc-shape to doodle the nose. You can, of course, experiment with the nose. The nose in this example is very simple. You can, however, draw it another way if you wish.

Step 4

doodle quiet

Use a combination of straight lines to draw the zipper mouth. Start with the main horizontal straight line for the mouth. Then draw the short vertical lines across the mouth. Then finally draw the end of the zipper using a combination of straight lines.

Step 5

how to doodle quiet

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of someone being QUIET. Can you think of any other ways to doodle the idea of being QUIET without using words?

How to Doodle a Quick

Step 1

drawing quick

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of something being QUICK, what would you draw? To visualize this, we would need to draw something that is fast. How about a rocket ship? Use a combination of straight lines and curved lines to draw the main body of your rocket ship. Notice how the lines meet at a point on the front of the rocket ship.

Step 2

draw quick

Use a large arc shape to draw the cockpit area. This will become the main control center of our rocket ship. Use another smaller arc shape the emphasize the pointy end of our rocket ship.

Step 3

doodling quick

Use three small oval shapes to draw the viewing windows below deck. Draw these on the body of the rocket ship. Then use a couple of arc shapes to draw the pilot’s head and the smiley face. 🙂

Step 4

doodle quick

To show that the rocket ship is whizzing past us at an accelerated rate, we need to draw smoke coming from the engine. Use a combination of straight lines, curved lines, and a cloud shape to doodle the smoke area.

Step 5

how to doodle quick

Add the finishing touches to your rocket ship doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our representation of something QUICK. How many other ways can you think of to visualize something quick?

How to Doodle a Question

Step 1

drawing a question

If someone asked you to visualize a QUESTION, what would you draw? Let’s keep this one very simple. Begin by doodling an oval shape in the middle of your page.

Step 2

draw a question

Besides the oval shape you drew in step 1, doodle another oval shape. I guess this is more like an arc-shape as part of the oval is hidden behind the original oval shape. These two oval shapes will represent our speech bubbles that get the conversation going.

Step 3

doodling a question

Within the first oval shape, draw a question mark. This bubble will be the source of our question.

Step 4

doodle a question

Let’s now draw a destination for the speech bubbles. Draw a curved v-shape on each speech bubble that extends downward. We don’t necessarily need to show that it’s coming from somewhere. This is self-explanatory.

Step 5

how to doodle a question

Finalize your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our simple visual representation of a QUESTION. But I’m sure there are plenty of other ways we could represent the process of “asking a question”. Feel free to brainstorm some possibilities.

How to Doodle a Queen

Step 1

drawing a queen

If someone asked you to draw a QUEEN, what would you draw? We could, of course, approach it one way and actually draw a head of a queen with a grown. Or we could go about it another way by drawing a chess piece. Let’s take a look. Use a combination of straight lines and arc shapes to draw the head of the chess piece.

Step 2

draw a queen

Use three additional straight lines to draw the neck area. The lines kind of form a triangle but without the pointy top. Notice the angles and length of the lines within the example.

Step 3

doodling a queen

Use a straight line and a couple of curved lines to draw the body of your chess piece. Again, notice the length and curvature of the lines.

Step 4

doodle a queen

Use an elongated flat arc shape right under the body. Then draw the bass of the chess piece using a single curved line that extends from left to right.

Step 5

how to doodle a queen

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a QUEEN. How many other ways can you think of to doodle a queen? Or how about trying to doodle other chess pieces?

How to Doodle Quality

Step 1

drawing quality

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of QUALITY, what would you draw? How about a jar with a solid tick of approval. 🙂 Use an elongated rectangle and combine it with several straight vertical lines to draw the lid of your jar.

Step 2

draw quality

For the body of the jar, use a curved line on the left and right side, then an arc shape for the bottom of the jar. You can either draw these lines separately or in one stroke.

Step 3

doodling quality

Now draw almost a full oval shape in the middle of your jar. You will notice in the example that a small gap has been left on the top right side of the circle. We will fill this gap in the next step.

Step 4

doodle quality

In the middle of your oval shape and extending outwards, draw a tick. This will become our tick of approval and a measure of the quality of this product.

Step 5

how to doodle quality

Add the finishing touches to your QUALITY doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of QUALITY. How many other ways can you think of to visually represent the idea of quality?

Step 1

drawing a qualification

If someone asked you to doodle a QUALIFICATION, what would you draw? How about we draw a wall certificate. To begin with, use straight lines to draw the outside border of the certificate. Notice the angles of the lines and the gap on the bottom right corner.

Step 2

draw a qualification

Let’s now draw a small ribbon within that gap. Use a combination of a circle, straight lines, and v-shapes to draw your ribbon.

Step 3

doodling a qualification

Let’s now add a small v-shape to the top left-hand corner of the page. Then use a cloud shape on the outside of your ribbon.

Step 4

doodle a qualification

Let’s now add some writing to our certificate. To show the written word in the form of a doodle, simply use wavy lines. Kind of like drawing the ocean. Then add your signature to the bottom of the page.

Step 5

How to Doodle a Quack

How to Doodle a Quack

Step 1

drawing a quack

How would you go about drawing a quack? What is a quack? A “quack” is a sound a duck makes. And the visual representation of a quack is a duck. In that case, let’s doodle a ducks head. Begin by drawing a side-facing arc shape in the middle of your page. This will become the back of our duck’s head.

Step 2

draw a quack

Use a combination of arc shapes, v-shapes, and curved lines to draw the front part of the ducks head. Notice in the example how all these shapes come together. You can, in fact, draw them with one pencil stroke. Or, if you prefer, you can draw the various shapes one at a time.

Step 3

doodling a quack

Use long curved lines to draw the duck’s beak. Notice how the beak curves outwards at the ends. I find it easier to draw the upper part of the beak first, then to draw the bottom part of the beak second. But you might prefer to do it the other way around.

Step 4

doodle a quack

Use a combination of oval shapes and an arc-shape to draw the eye and nostrils of your duck head. Notice the positioning of the eye on the duck’s head.

Step 5

how to doodle a quack

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a quack or duck. Can you think of any other ways you could doodle a duck?

How to Doodle a Protest

Step 1

drawing a protest

If someone asked you to visualize a PROTEST, what would you draw? Let’s use very simple icons for our doodle. To begin with, draw a couple of icon characters in the middle of your page. Use a combination of circles and arc shapes. Notice how one character is positioned a little higher than the other character in the example.

Step 2

draw a protest

Because this is a protest, our characters are not feeling very cheerful. Let’s, therefore, use an upside-down arc shape to draw a frown on each face. Then add two more arc shapes on the side of the body of our characters. This will represent their hands.

Step 3

doodling a protest

Let’s now show that our characters are holding protest signs. Use a combination of straight lines and rectangles to doodle the two signs. Notice how the signs are extending out from each hand. This is very simple, but all we are doing is just creating the visual idea of a protest. And simplicity is best.

Step 4

doodle a protest

Next, use ovals, dots and arc shapes to draw a couple of sad faces on each sign. Feel free to use some creativity here. You can follow along with the example, or create a different variation of these faces.

Step 5

how to doodle a protest

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of a PROTEST. Yes, it’s very simple, but doesn’t it get the idea across of a protest? And that’s the whole point when it comes to doodling. It’s all about simplicity and getting our message across in a very simple and straightforward way. How many other ways can you think of to doodle a protest?
