How to Doodle a Rose

Step 1

To begin your rose doodle, draw two arc shapes. One upside-down arc shape on top, and a regular elongated arc shape on the bottom. This will become the head of your rose doodle.

Step 2

To show that our rose has layers of petals, use a spiral shape. You can either begin in the middle of the spiral shape and draw extending outwards, or you can begin on the outside and draw extending inwards. Choose whichever way works for you.

Step 3

Use a couple of curved lines to draw the stem of your rose. Notice how the step finishes at a point, kind of like a v-shape.

Step 4

Use several more arc shapes to draw the leaves on the stem of our rose. Notice the shape of the leaves and where they are positioned on the rose.

How to Doodle Romance

How to Doodle Romance

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of ROMANCE, what would you draw? How about a couple sitting on a couch? However, because this is a doodle, we will need to make it very simple and straightforward. Begin by drawing the back of the couch. Notice how the bottom corners are straight while the top corners of the couch are rounded.

Step 2

Use a combination of arc shapes and curved lines to draw the first person of our couple. Notice that in this doodle we can only see the person’s head, left shoulder, and right arm.

Step 3

Use another arc shape to draw the head of our second person. Notice how the head of this second person is resting on the arm of the first person. Notice also how their heads are touching.

Step 4

To show that this is a romantic situation, let’s add a love heart between the two heads. Notice in the example how the love heart is directly in the middle of our two heads.

How to Doodle Risk-Taking

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of RISK-TAKING, what would you draw? We need to think of something simple that we could draw fairly quickly that would demonstrate the idea of RISK-TAKING. Let’s give it a go. Begin by drawing almost a full oval shape on your page. Notice in the example the gap in the oval shape.

Step 2

Extending from this gap, use a combination of straight lines and v-shaped lines to draw what looks like a very wonky pole. Your doodle doesn’t necessarily need to look exactly like the example above. You can draw something that looks like it. This will become our climbing pole.

Step 3

Next, draw a head of a stick figure. Use a straight line for the mouth. Notice how the head is about 3/4 of the way up the pole.

Now we must show that our stick figure is climbing the pole. Notice the positioning of the hands and feet of our stick figure. You can, of course, change up the positioning. The idea is to show that the stick figure is climbing the pole.

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of RISK-TAKING. Do you get it? Our stick figure is climbing a long pole. It looks dangerous, and so he/she is taking a risk. But this is, of course, one of many ways we could draw the idea of RISK-TAKING. How many other ways can you think of?

How to Doodle a Result

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize a RESULT, what would you draw? One very simple and effective way to visualize this would be to draw a tick. And I don’t mean the garden variety tick. 😉 I mean the tick you get when you ace a test. Let’s, however, progress this a little further by also adding a clipboard to our doodle. To begin with, draw the top section of your clipboard. Use straight lines to draw a large and small rectangle shape as shown within the example.

Step 2

Next, use straight lines to draw the clipboard and paper. Notice in the example how a gap has been left on the right-side of the clipboard. This is where we will place our tick in the next step.

Step 3

Use a combination of straight and curved lines to draw your tick. Notice the angles of these lines and the distance between them in the example.

Step 4

Let’s now show that there is some writing on the paper. Kind of like a test or an essay. Use wavey lines to represent words and sentences on paper.

We have a tick and what looks like a test or exam on the clipboard. In combination, this gives us a result. How to Doodle a Resort

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize a RESORT, what would you draw? When I think about what a resort looks like, I imagine a tropical island scene. So let’s create this. Begin by drawing the island. Use an arc shape for the island, then a series of connected arc shapes for the ocean waves.

Step 2

Use a combination of straight lines and an arc shape to draw a small island hut on the sand. Notice the angles of these lines. Huts can come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. Feel free to use your imagination and create something a little different to the example you see above.

Step 3

Every tropical island and resort needs a palm tree. Use a combination of straight lines and v-shapes to draw your palm tree right next to the hut.

Step 4

When we think of a tropical scene, there has to be an element of warmth. In other words, the sun must be shining down on our island scene. This gives us the impression of a tropical scene. Use an oval shape to draw your sun. Then around the sun, doodle some heatwaves using curved lines that rotate and radiate from the sun.

Finish things off by giving your doodle some color. And there we have it. This is our simple and straightforward visual representation of a resort. How to Doodle Research

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize RESEARCH, what would you draw? Let’s take a look at an example. When thinking about “research” immediately a document comes to mind. So let’s first doodle a piece of paper. To draw your paper, doodle a rectangle in the middle of your page. Notice how there is a gap on the bottom left side of our rectangle.

Step 2

Within this gap, doodle the handle of a magnifying glass. Use an elongated arc shape for the handle, and to oval shapes for the glass area of the magnifying glass. The magnifying glass will help symbolize a focus area for our research.

Step 3

Let’s now show that there is a depth of research here. To show this, draw another couple of pieces of paper. Use straight lines for this purpose. Notice how these lines match the angles of the original paper draw in step 1.

Step 4

We need to now show that there is something here to research. Doodling writing is fairly straightforward. Use wavey lines like drawing waves of an ocean. Then within the magnifying glass area, write Abc. This is the highlight of our research project.

How to Doodle a Reminder

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize a REMINDER, what would you draw? A visual representation of a reminder could come in many different forms. However, one way that stands out, comes in the form of a piece of string tied to a finger. A nice way to remind ourselves to do something. Let’s see what this looks like. Begin by drawing the index finger. Use an elongated arc shape to show that this finger is pointing upwards.

Step 2

Use a curved line to represent the thumb under the index finger. In the example, the thumb is drawn in one stroke. You can either draw it in one stroke without lifting your pencil, or you can divide it up into parts. When drawing the thumb, pay particular attention to the angle that the thumb is pointing.

Step 3

Let’s now draw three additional fingers. Use a combination of curved lines and arc shapes to draw these three fingers. Then use another curved line to draw the outside palm of the hand. Hands are tricky to draw, but if you stick with it and follow the example, with practice they will become second nature. 🙂

To remind ourselves to take out the trash tomorrow, let’s tie a piece of string to our index finger. 😉 Use several curved lines to draw the piece of string. Also, use a combination of several straight lines to draw the shirt sleeve.

How to Doodle Quit

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of someone QUITTING something, what would you draw? Many people try and quit smoking. So let’s use quitting smoking as our visual. Begin by drawing a couple of arc shapes facing each other on a 45-degree angle. Next, draw a line on each arc shape that closes the shape. So, effectively you are left with two half-pizza shapes.

Step 2

Along the outside, draw an oval shape. I say “oval” because a circle shape is perfectly round. And that is very difficult to do when drawing by hand. But we can certainly get away with an oval that doesn’t need to be perfectly round. 🙂

Step 3

Use a combination of straight lines to draw the cigarette shape. Notice how the cigarette is partially hidden behind the thick line going through the middle of the oval shape. This gives us the impression that the cigarette is in the background.

Step 4

Let’s now make this shape look more like a cigarette. To do this, use a combination of straight and curved lines. The curved lines represent the cigarette smoke.

Step 5

Add the finishing touches to your doodle by giving it some color. And there we have it. This is our visual representation of QUITTING something. In this case, it represents quitting smoking. However, you can use this visual to represent making other things as well. You might just need to replace the cigarette with another visual. Try it out using different doodles and see how it goes.

How to Doodle Quiet

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of being QUIET, what would you draw? How about a zipper face? 😉 To begin with, draw an oval in the middle of your page. This oval will become the head of your character. Next, use a couple of arc-shapes to doodle an ear on the left and right side of the head.

Step 2

Use two arc-shapes to draw the eyes. Then use another two smaller arc shapes to draw the pupils of the eyes. In this example, we are drawing the pupils in such a way that they are looking downwards at the mouth.

Step 3

Use another arc-shape to doodle the nose. You can, of course, experiment with the nose. The nose in this example is very simple. You can, however, draw it another way if you wish.

Step 4

Use a combination of straight lines to draw the zipper mouth. Start with the main horizontal straight line for the mouth. Then draw the short vertical lines across the mouth. Then finally draw the end of the zipper using a combination of straight lines.

How to Doodle a Quick

Step 1

If someone asked you to visualize the idea of something being QUICK, what would you draw? To visualize this, we would need to draw something that is fast. How about a rocket ship? Use a combination of straight lines and curved lines to draw the main body of your rocket ship. Notice how the lines meet at a point on the front of the rocket ship.

Step 2

Use a large arc shape to draw the cockpit area. This will become the main control center of our rocket ship. Use another smaller arc shape the emphasize the pointy end of our rocket ship.

Step 3

Use three small oval shapes to draw the viewing windows below deck. Draw these on the body of the rocket ship. Then use a couple of arc shapes to draw the pilot’s head and the smiley face. 🙂

Step 4

To show that the rocket ship is whizzing past us at an accelerated rate, we need to draw smoke coming from the engine. Use a combination of straight lines, curved lines, and a cloud shape to doodle the smoke area.
